The five-second money view
See where you stand in five seconds.
Four numbers answer the questions a bank balance cannot.
Protected tax money that is not treated as spendable.
Money received but not yet assigned to a category.
What remains after protected tax money and upcoming obligations.
- How much money do I have?
- How much is already protected?
- How much still needs a job?
- How much is actually safe after upcoming obligations?
Example amounts are clearly labeled preview data, not customer information.
The problem
A bank balance does not tell you what is safe to spend.
A checking balance can include rent, taxes, upcoming payments, savings, and income that has not been assigned yet. One large number does not explain which dollars are free and which already have a purpose.
Money Ledger separates those responsibilities without turning personal money into a complicated accounting system.
How Money Ledger works
Every dollar gets a clear job.
Enter a transaction once. Connected balances, categories, totals, reports, and relevant warnings update from the same record.
- 01
Add what you have
Enter current accounts and starting balances so the system knows how much cash exists.
- 02
Assign the money
Allocate available dollars to editable categories for real expenses, taxes, and savings.
- 03
Record what happens
Add income, spending, or transfers and update the connected parts automatically.
- 04
Stay ahead
See bills, low categories, overspending, protected taxes, and what remains after obligations.
Monthly Budget
Plan the month without losing what came before.
Build the budget around editable category groups and the obligations that matter this month. Unused money rolls forward instead of disappearing at month-end.
- Editable groups and categories
- Targets, due dates, and notes
- Move money between categories
- Low-balance and overspending warnings
- Negative Ready to Assign warning
- Month-to-month rollover

Transactions
Enter it once. Update everything.
Add income, spending, and transfers with the account, category, payee, date, and a useful memo. Search, filter, edit, duplicate, split, or safely delete records. Appropriate recent actions can be undone.
- Balances and category activity update together
- Monthly totals, cash flow, and warnings stay connected
- Transfers create matching account effects
- Transfers are not counted as income or spending
Accounts and reconciliation
Know that the numbers match reality.
Track checking, savings, cash, and payment accounts with starting balances, history, transfers, adjustments, and active or closed states.
Compare the Money Ledger balance with the real account balance. Find missing or incorrect transactions, correct them, and confirm when the totals match.
Income and Taxes
Protect tax money before it gets spent.
Mark income as taxable when appropriate, set a planning percentage, calculate a suggested reserve, and assign that amount to the Tax Reserve category. Protected tax money stays separate from what is available to use.
- Track income and tax totals over time
- Adjust the reserve when circumstances change
- Review protected money separately
Money Ledger is organizational software. It does not provide tax, legal, accounting, or investment advice.

Overview and attention alerts
See what needs attention without hunting for it.
The overview brings today’s position, recent activity, and upcoming obligations together. Calm alerts explain what happened and offer an obvious next step.

Reports connect back to the transactions and categories behind the totals whenever practical.
Manual by design
Manual entry. Clear control.
You decide what enters the system, how it is categorized, and when the numbers are reconciled. There are no delayed bank connections deciding what a transaction means.
- Direct control and clear categories
- No waiting for bank imports
- Easier correction of mistakes
- Intentional awareness of spending
- No duplicate entry within Money Ledger
This deliberate approach will not be right for every person.
Private and persistent
Your financial data should stay private.
Money Ledger is designed for private user accounts, data saved across sessions, separation between user records, authenticated access, and confirmation before destructive actions.
- No public financial display
- Preview data can be cleared
- Records are separated by signed-in user
Safe onboarding
Start with preview data. Switch when you are ready.

- 02Clear it with a confirmed action
- 03Add accounts and starting balances
- 04Choose a starting month and tax percentage
- 05Edit categories and add upcoming bills
